Collaboration and networking within the Creative Services industry by Sam Dean
Creative services refers to a set of overlapping industry fields that concentrate on developing exclusive content and design for an assignment or project commissioned by a client. These projects are new and have previously not existed or can be development from existing content through content building strategies.
On a global level, the creative industries typically include services from various sectors such as film and tv, photography, fashion, actors, music, fine artists, entertainment, creatives, arts and crafts, design, architecture, advertising and many more sub sectors. Projects can be assigned to an individual field or may need the collaboration of two or more fields for the completion of an assigned project. For example, a music video requires a film crew, a dance crew, director, stage props team, lighting crew, costume designer, choreographer, possibly a photographer and definitely the music artist or artists themselves. It’s the collaboration of the fore-mentioned creatives that produces a professional music video production.
Within a field such as advertising, the people in the creative department are core to the advertising agency. It is the originality and the creativity of the advertising agencies that make their clients successful and therefore, requires much collaboration within a single department. The creative services department would normally include copywriters, art directors, creative directors, mac operators, visualisers, studio managers and some assistants.
Creativity plays its part in everyday life, whether it’s domestic as in the interior design of a home or commercial as in the brand or corporate design for a business. There is usually follow on work for other creatives to get involved such as website designers, photographers or multimedia producers depending on the project scope.
There are many types of agencies that people can choose from when developing a project. Creative agencies, digital agencies, music production agencies, entertainment agencies, media agencies, marketing agencies, actor and model agencies, fashion agencies, PR agencies and photographic agencies are some of the most known categories and play a major role in the creative industry.
Regardless of what the specialist area, the portfolio of work needs to be of the highest standard and should convey the brief and the creative vision of the creative services that have been provided.
