A Golden Afternoon homage to women, romance and the symbolic nature by detroit

Victorian England in the mid-nineteenth century, a group of painters, poets and English critics, known as the Pre-Raphaelites, formed a brotherhood that celebrated woman, romance and symbolic nature. Disappointed by the teachings and deeds of the Royal Academy, wanted to return to more direct and genuine artistic expression characterized by an abundance of detail, vibrant colors and complex patterns.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti was one of the leading artists of this circle. His desire was to strengthen the link between art and romantic poetry. Rossetti emphasized the brilliance of color and women were often portrayed as the personification of the creative force of Nature. ‘The Daydream’ (1880) is a celebration of female sensuality controlled union of beauty and mystery. The woman is not a passive beauty, is powerful and full of intensity.

Very influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites, Julia Margaret Cameron, recognized as one of the most influential artists of photographic portraiture, became famous for his portraits of celebrities of the time. In her photography, Cameron tried to capture the beauty. He had the gift of “stopping” the personality of his subjects showing emotions.

Quickly developed his unique style of portrait photographer, slightly out of focus and deliberately foggy, to emphasize the emotional dimension of his subjects in an often highly allegorical. The mild melancholy of his portraits is irresistible, and for many remains unsurpassed in the world of photography today.

Julia Margaret Cameron DeWitt Watches 178×250 Golden Afternoon: A Tribute To WomenThe attendance at the pre-Raphaelite school of artists get to know Charles Dodgson, another keen photographer of the time, better known as Lewis Carroll. Dodgson had often used Alice Liddell (the inspiration for his Alice books) as a subject to be portrayed in his photographs. The then Alice Cameron recognized the perfect pre-Raphaelite model and used it in his allegory of Alethea photo, the Greek goddess of truth.

Julia Margaret Cameron had an artistic approach to photography: follow your instincts, completely free from all rules and conventions Victorian.

Given the avant-garde art movement first, the Pre-Raphaelites, with their celebration of the Women of Romanticism and Symbolism of Nature, are the main source of inspiration for the collection of DeWitt Golden Afternoon.
For All The Golden Afternoon

With the collection Golden Afternoon , DeWitt tries to go through art and poetry with the various phases of a woman’s life and the changing perceptions of the world around her. Too lightly, and a bit of imagination, the collection reflects the Golden Afternoon hearts and minds of women.
What better example of the story of Alice in Wonderland to describe a woman’s attempt to understand the world around her? Once deciphered this beautiful example of literary nonsense, we are faced with a thoroughly modern girl, trying to find their identity and aspires to become a completely independent woman. The story of the long and tortuous journey from innocence of childhood to the wisdom of the adult world.

In the introductory verses opera Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll recalls the afternoon when during a boat trip from Oxford to Godstow told the story of Alice in Wonderland to the three Liddell sisters, Lorina, Alice and Edith. This is the first verse:

Throughout the golden afternoon
we sailed without haste;
Our hands are not disabled,
Our voices are weak,
while your arms can not give
the necessary impetus to row.
