Is it possible to get a coloured image onto a vinyl record?

Im doing my photography GCSE’s and I’d really like to present my final piece (my own version of classic album covers) on a vinyl record but I’m not sure how to do it, the image must be digital (or somehow printed from the darkroom) and can not be drawn onto the vinyl (because i have no artistic talent).
I have tried printing on clear plastic but that didn’t work and stencils will take to long, any other ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks

If you want a record to play, I think it would be almost impossible today.
If you want it to look like it might play, then you might be able to find a way to take a vinyl record, a soft plastic laminating sheet and your picture and heat/warm the laminating sheet and use a art press – like lithograph or engraving to push the record into the laminating sheet hard enough to leave an impression of the grooves. Of course, the grooves would be backward and lacking enough detail to make sound but the impression might be enough.
Since you seem to be doing album covers for your art and picture records http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unusual_types_of_gramophone_records#Picture_discs were relatively rare, I would suggest you not get diverted into too much distraction. You might consider using real records but make fake labels digitally to add detail to your art.
