The contemporary age of erotic photography by Mike Ellis
In 1835, a man named Louis Daguerre was able to ideal his photographic procedure referred to as the “dauerreotype” and modern photography as we know it was born. Shortly – some say immediately – afterward, erotic photography was born. The capability to create crystal clear, permanent images of nude or nearly nude teens, was too tempting for photographers to resist. But the equipment and procedure of the earliest photo techniques was complicated and cumbersome. Most experts agree that the modern era of erotic photography began with the introduction of the Leica 35 millimeter camera in 1925. The compact camera took photography out of the professional studio and delivered it to a mass market. From this point on, erotic photography enjoyed a rise in popularity and acceptance.
Soon photographers began looking for out females to model and pose for erotic photos, creating the process much more commercialized. Black and white film was inexpensive, along with a basic home darkroom allowed the erotic photo hobbyist to develop and print his own sexy, artistic pictures. Usually, early examples of erotica were for personal use, because there had been no publications like Playboy in existence yet. Within the days after photography came into being, the moral climate did not foster good feelings about erotica and nude art; most early examples were swapped privately or sold “under the counter”.
The arrival of color film was eagerly embraced by amateur and professional erotic photographers, but house processing and printing was too complex for most. And taking a roll of erotic art photos to a camera store or pro lab for processing and printing might be a risky proposition. Then the Polaroid camera hit the block, which made it dead simple to take your personal snapshots and develop them instantly. And when home video camcorders and then digital cameras arrived on the scene, anybody, anywhere, could become an erotic photo artist. With these advances, nude art has become a global phenomenon, with people of all ages all all over the world participating in their own forms of photography.
In the time an attractive young girl or skilled older woman needs to strip bare and expose her figure to the camera, nude, erotic photos could be taken, and then dispersed to collectors, connoisseurs, and voyeurs all around the world. Thanks to our ever-connected world, a young college girl in Germany can send her boyfriend overseas in America nude photos of herself immediately. A stunning babe in Brazil can be on full nude display in Berlin or Biarritz, and beyond, inside seconds of posing totally nude.
It is tough to say where the future of erotic photography will lead us, and what new developments it’ll bring. It is hard to consider such leaps and bounds becoming made as we go into the future, however it will likely occur.
