what light bulbs should i use on my photography light tent?
i am just a beginner, so please give me ideas on the bulbs i should be using. (how many watts, and what brands work best for you). thanks
For daylight balanced film, you can use a standard grow bulb, like you would use for indoor plants, however the color temperature will still be a bit warm. Depending on the size of the tent, 60-100 watts will probably be enough to keep shutter speeds up when using small apertures for adequate Depth of Field on a table top sized tent or copy stand. If you find the images too warm, purchase a pale blue filter from a camera supply store to counteract the warm yellow/orange color cast.
You can use a standard light bulb and shoot tungsten balanced film…or
If your shooting digital, set your in camera white balance to “incandescent” (check your instruction manual) and use regular light bulbs. Again, if the image is still too yellow/orange, you can set a manual white balance in camera, or use minor filtration.
If your a beginner, you may not want to be messing around with post capture conversions necessary with RAW capture, and indeed you may need to purchase a software program specifically for RAW conversion. ( again, you have indicated your a beginner, so I’ll assume you don’t have such software )
I use standard incandescent light bulbs and a Tiffen 82A filter on my copy stand, with good results.
