I am trying to follow a tutorial which is specific to Photoshop CS3 but says it can be done in Elements?
BUT – the first step tells me that having created a new layer I need to go to Select – Color Range. There is no such thing in Elements 6 and I can’t fathom out how to do what they are after.
It is trying to take a picture of buildings with a plain sky and make the buildings into a mask (so colour them all in black) to enable the sky area only to be changed.
Any ideas?

Ah Ha! I got stuck on Color Range in another tutorial a couple of months ago and learned something new. It’s not exactly Photoshop’s Color Range but in the Select Menu there’s Grow and Similar. Fiddle with them to see if you can’t get something similar to what’s produced by Photoshop’s Color Range.
The Grow command selects similar colors that are adjacent to the current selection. The Similar command selects similar colors throughout the image. How much or little they select is controlled by the Tolerance setting of the Magic Wand Tool.
