One Stop Mother’s Day Shop: Portland, Maine by Mercie Hallow
May is the International month of celebrating the special woman who brought us in this world, our mothers. It is a special day wherein we thank and cherish them for the sacrifices they had endured because of us. I used to buy a bouquet full of flowers and a special Mothers Day card/ gift for my mom on Mothers Days. I wonder what my daughter; Alara would give me on Mothers Day a few years from now.
Flowers are still popular as a Mothers Day gift, especially for moms who are housewives who have chosen to care for her kids. Career moms often received a special planner as a gift to properly organize her work schedules. Scrap booking kits and cross stitching packages are also ideal gifts for Mother’s Day. In the end it is not the gift that mattered but the thought and love that comes along with it.
There is a shop in Portland, Maine that exclusively sells gift items for Mother’s Day. This is the One Stop Shop which is open only during the last week of April up to Mother’s Day in May. Items being sold are usually homemade and craft stuffs that hobbyists make. The store opens at the usual store hours. It is heartwarming to see kids and husbands shopping this quaint store to pick what suits best for their beloved mother/ wives.
If picking a gift always remember to think of the person to whom the gift would be presented. It is important to decide based on the persons personality so one could know what the best gift for that person should be. Some people would sometimes ask indirect questions to their recipients to know what kind of gifts she prefers.
